The Setting and Facilities

Cambridge Montessori, is located at 73a Tenison Road in central Cambridge. The building, a former coach house is set in a conservation area of Victorian streets and period homes in a quiet part of the city. Set back from the road, the nursery school is accessible by a side entrance leading through a walled courtyard garden with fig trees adorning the walls.

The nursery interior spaces provide bright spacious rooms with plenty of natural light in which children can move and learn freely. There are two outside spaces for children to access throughout the day; the courtyard garden and rear garden. The rear garden is the smaller of the two spaces and is accessible to the Nido and Infant Community children.

The nursery school offers Montessori education and care for up to 86 children within three special Montessori Environments; Nido (Nest), Infant Community (IC) and Casa Dei Bambini (Children House). Each environment has been developed to support children learn independently and included in these learning environments are resources and learning materials that encourage self-initiated learning. Children are supported by Montessori teachers who observe and guide children in their learning. The Montessori teachers are supported by assistants.

The Nursery School was founded in July 2016 by its directors; husband and wife, Max and Pamela Gordon-Smith. The Montessori School was founded on the principles and teachings of Dr Maria Montessori.
